Medical Eye Protections
Face Shield & Goggles
Face shields are types of personal protective equipment that should be used in work environments containing airborne debris, chemicals, and blood-borne pathogens. They should be used in specific operations to protect the entire face, but are intended as secondary protective devices as they should not be used solely to supplement safety glasses and eye protection. The combination of safety glasses and a face shield will provide the maximum level of protection.
Employers are required to provide face shields or safety glasses to employees who are at risk of injury to their face or eyes while on the job. These must be comfortable, capable of being cleaned and disinfected, durable and well maintained. The face shield windows extend from the forehead under the chin and across the width of the face. Safety glasses are essential for preventing eye injuries that can occur in the home or on the job due to airborne debris, sparks, and other hazards.
